The Kiwanis Student Leadership Academy (KSLA) has provided training to more than one hundred high potential student leaders during that time. Participants currently include Batesville High School sophomores, juniors, and seniors, and each student receives nine days of leadership training while a member of KSLA. In addition to completing the training, students develop and lead service projects within their school and/or Batesville area. Past projects have included implementing a recycling program at BHS, developing and leading an anti-bullying campaign, and working with community organizations such as Safe Passage (the local domestic abuse shelter), the Batesville Ministerial Association food pantry, and the Batesville Beautification League. KSLA students are also responsible each year for leading Freshmen Orientation at the school. The specific goals of KSLA are as follows: - Developing responsible student leadership that positively impacts the school and community - Developing teamwork in the student body - Encouraging and developing potential leaders - Promoting pride and school spirit - Introducing the responsibilities of society to young adults Questions about KSLA can be directed to any member of the Batesville Kiwanis organization."
