Sen. Leising: Boeing Contract Could
Bring Jobs to Shelbyville, Boost Local
Economy Leising joins federal,
local officials encouraging Congress to sign
contract with American aviation company over
European manufacturer
State Sen. Jean
Leising (R-Oldenburg) joined federal, state and local
officials today in going to bat for a Shelbyville
company that would benefit if Congress signs a contract
with American manufacturer Boeing over its European
aviation competitor, Airbus.
"Awarding
this contract to The Boeing Company is important to
Triumph Controls in Shelbyville, its employees and the
future growth of the local economy," Leising said.
"There has never been a time in recent years that jobs
are as important to our community as they are
today."
If Congress awards the
U.S. manufacturer with the contract, Leising said the
Shelbyville aviation parts producer could assist Boeing
in building the NewGen Tanker - and that could mean new
jobs for the community.
Developed by Boeing,
the NewGen Tanker is a widebody, multi-mission refueling
aircraft. The U.S. Air Force will use the new generation
tanker and is expected to benefit from the aircraft's
updated navigation system, expanded refueling boom and
new onboard defense system.
Leising said Boeing
employs 155,000 people in the U.S and supports 21,000
suppliers - including Triumph Controls who employ more
than 80 workers at the Shelbyville plant.
Leising continued to
say she plans to contact U.S. Rep. Mike Pence and U.S.
Sens. Richard Lugar and Evan Bayh on the importance of
the federal government supporting the Boeing NewGen
Tanker.
"By supporting the
U.S.-based company, Congress
could be helping the U.S. military, the economy and
boost job creation for the people in Indiana," Leising
said.
